OK, OK – so there are spiritually confused folk in the world, what does that have to do with me? Besides, Mystery Babylon is out there, not in here, right? Wrong!
Mystery Babylon is invading our churches en masse as a full onslaught attack within the doctrine of deception. Whether by direct apostasy or assimilation, God’s house is under siege! Let’s take a peek at the full strength Kool-Aid of the Emergent Church which has embraced apostasy as well as the measured variations of assimilation into our main-stream local churches.
The Emergents are the spiritual intellectuals of the post-modern age. They have been identified as the new liberals – those willing to go beyond the confines of truth and dabble. The new Emergents are a generation of very discontented, young post-evangelicals who don’t want the superficial, seeker-friendly commercialism that stages itself in its very evident lack of authenticity! Any generation that does not embrace the power and transformation of the truth, becomes the generation that the next generation does not want to be like!
Much of their assessment of the present day, distracted, powerless church, being superficial, unauthentic and full of commercialized show-biz is accurate. However, their response was not and is not legit! The Emergents look as handsome as Absalom and sounds like him, too, “We know better than our father David, and if we were in charge, we would establish social justice in the Kingdom!” Rather than returning to the obedience of God’s absolute truths and reverent adherence, they make a complete departure from even the belief that there is absolute truth.
Emergents are often very condescending with passive-aggressive sarcasm towards the faithful outside emergent beliefs, calling those, with a cynical twist, arrogant who claim that they can know truth. In fact, in tandem with the post-modern seculars, they concur that the fundamentalists are the world’s problem, in both the spiritual and political arenas. The historic position of the Judeo-Christian faith has been the pursuit and obedience to the absolute and fundamental truths in God’s Word. And for the weak of spine, not wanting to sound or appear old fashioned, regretfully agree with the condescending Emergent’s assessment, and unwittingly put themselves in agreement with a compromised state of mind. The new and redefined Christianity is not based on fundamental truths, but a conversation about those supposed truths.
Emergents propose that truth is subjective and relative to interpretation, valuing relationship over truth. For example: I accept that you have your truth and surely you can accept that I have my truth and this is where we can have fellowship. It is the age old “truth is relative” packaged in spiritualism on steroids priding themselves as enlightened and clever believers! Things that we need to know about Emergents:
Religious symbols over defining language
Social justice and action over eternal perspectives
Experience over reason
Spirituality over doctrine and absolute truths
Universal Salvation for the universe
Universal cosmic redemption including everything
They prepare the way for the Kingdom by anticipating potentialities
A word on Potentialities. At any given time, we potentially have access to the FULLNESS OF GOD, however that potential is never realized apart from actuating our faith in obedience to God. Remember what Ms. Blavatsky channeled Lucifer saying, “…everything in the Universe is informed by the potentialities present in the unknown root.” This complete replacement attempts to hijack the truth of the vast true potential that is in accord and obedient to the KNOWN ROOT and offspring of David, Jesus Christ (Rev 22:16)!
Acclaimed potential that is not coupled with the principles of growth is nothing more than a sales pitch for a better you without the costly price tag of the Blood of Jesus. This is charming snake talk folks! The same seduction used in the Garden of Eden, “Think of your potential, youuuu, wonderful youuuu cannnn haveee…bla, bla, bla.”
Regretfully, we take this bait, hook, line, and sinker too often. Focusing on our potentials puts the focus on us, rather than pleasing God FIRST. Folk desperate for value fantasize endlessly of being valuable, important, sucess, beautiful, etc and we are in love with the image of seeing ourselves on mountain tops with the wind blowing in our hair and wearing a cape. The false image of ourselves, becomes an ill-willed ego that campaign's endlessly in self-promotion. It is the wrong long game focus completely! Also, be fare warned that while we are caught up in our self-promoting fantasies, we need to know beloved that pride serves as a prison of heart, as Mary said in Luke 1:5,
...he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
We can focus on our potentials all day long, but until we act upon our faith in simple obedience to God, it serves no purpose. Though it is a motivational truth, it in and of itself does not teach the people of God how to reach their potential – it is counter to the teachings of Jesus!
