Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law …having become a curse for us… Gal 3:13
Another misunderstanding is that the curse is from Satan. It is natural to come up with our own dramatized storylines when we start in the middle. However, we won’t do that, we will be diligent to practice the principle of origins to understand the curse. To the very heart of the point, God, not Satan, designed the curse.
God created the entirety of the world, Man’s intended dominion, before He created Man. Man was formed from the earth for the earth! In kind, God placed Man in the Garden, Woman’s intended dominion, before He created Woman – Woman was created from Man for Mankind! The point is that God prepares where He is calling us to have dominion before we get there! The Garden of Eden was a protected beautiful home to share purposeful pleasure. It was from this good and holy realm of pleasure that Man and Woman would rule in their appointed domains.
God authorized Man and Woman to rule in their domains by a voluntary choice to obey His Word. God never gives responsibility without the authority to execute accordingly. Our authority is enforced through and by our obedient choices. Choices are governed by the spiritual principle of cause and effect which is the authorization of our free will. God said if you do XYZ (cause), then XYZ (effect) will happen - whether positive or negative. Such as, “If you eat of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil (cause), you shall surely die (effect)” – God has made good on His Word ever since!
God gave them a choice to obey, He did not force them. We chose disobedience (cause) and therefore we fell (effect). The consequences of disobeying God’s code of order is the curse. Yes, the enemy takes advantage of our disobedience, in fact, he absolutely strategizes for us to voluntarily give up the authority we’ve been given by choosing to disobey, because it is his legal access point! But to be clear, God, not the Satan, has instituted the curse as a consequence of disobedience.
Subsequently in Genesis 3, when Man and Woman disobeyed, God cursed the identity of the Serpent, “…you are cursed…” the very nature of Satan is being cursed! But God did not curse Man and Woman’s identity, primarily because we are created in His Image, but He cursed our domains. We sowed disobedience His domain, so we reaped the consequences in our domain. This serves as a mirror in our relationship with both God and Man.
He is fully intent on restoring us to our purposed domains, by teaching us the power and authority of our autonomous souls choosing to be loving like Him. As Jesus said, “…do unto others as you would have them do unto you…whatsoever you sow that shall you also reap…whatever measure you use, will be measured back to you…” He was quoting and teaching from the Law of His Kingdom!
As an example, the Law prohibits lying. The prohibition to lie is not the curse, lying is -- surely we can see the difference! Furthermore, lying is the nature of Satan and his nature is cursed – we certainly don’t want to be like him! The Nature of God is Truth and by the way, He wired us that way, too! However, through the fall we died to the likeness of His Nature in us, which was a loving God-centric consciousness. But we fell into a selfish self-centric consciousness, which the Bible calls our flesh.
You might look like your mom or dad, but it doesn’t necessarily mean you are like them. In kind, though we were created in God’s Image, we fell from His likeness! This is what happen to us, and this is what God is seeking to restore! The cursed nature of Satan seeks to dominate by manipulating our selfish self-centric flesh to control us and those around us! But God offers both dominion and authority, freely, by choice – and teaches us to offer the same in our relationships. Whom we obey is W/whom we have chose as Lord/lord over us,
“Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?” Rom 6:16
When we fell, we became slaves under the Domain of Sin, we had no choices, no personal responsibility required, we could blame the devil or someone else all day long for all our woes – but no justice or mercy would be given in the compulsory Dominion of Sin. On the contrary, God’s Domain is just and holy, calling and relating to us as His sons and daughters, not slaves, to inherit, not work for His Kingdom. He teaches us to rule and reign through the His Law of Love -- by our choice!
The incredible grace give through the atonement of Jesus does not deauthorize our free will but reauthorizes us to make free-will choices! The cause and effect of our choices were before the fall, not a result of the fall! And if we are to be regenerated and restored back into a pre-fall authority, then we will have pre-fall responsibility! Grace does not absolve us from being accountable, in fact, we live in the reality of our choices, and we will, and do, give an exact spiritual account for all our choices, as Paul said,
“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows (cause), that he will also reap (effect).” Gal 6:7
