Historical, Recent & Present Context

Throughout Scripture, Israel has had a pattern of enemies – spiritually and physically. The inordinate envy and enmity against Israel expressed in the spiritual or natural has been nothing short but completely inordinate! This has played out in numerous ways throughout time, but was foretold, from the beginning, that it would climax with a conflict of biblical proportions! We are nearing that final climax.

We can not easily dismiss that as the Gregorian clock struck 2011, virtually over-night, governments with a restraining hand in the Islamic Middle East were overthrown. We have certainly crossed over to yet another appointed episode of God’s ultimate prophetic end-time drama!

However, it is the alliance of Egypt and Syria that should peak our interest more than anything. As mentioned before, Daniel chapters 9-12 detail for us a prophetic timeline. It is important to note the entire chapter of Daniel 11 deals with a back and forth conflict between the king of the south and the king of the north – i.e., the ancient kingdoms of Egypt (south) and Syria (north).

So to understand the unusual alliance in recent history (1948-1973) is of primary significance! It was very telling during the Middle East Arab Spring which prophetic wave we were entering.

Looking over our shoulder at Egypt’s recent prophetic history we see a trail of beneficial conflicts for Israel that Egypt and Syria have initiated with several of her allies – the allies that are so clearly patterned throughout Scripture.

1948 – Egypt, Syria, Transjordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Holy War Army, Arab Liberation Army, and the Muslim Brotherhood all collaborated to annihilate the re-birth of Israel -- Israel gained her Statehood!

1967 – Egypt, Syria and Jordan were going to push all of Israel into the sea – Israel gained Jerusalem, Gaza, West Bank and the Golan Heights!

1973 – Egypt and Syria attack Israel with yet another promise to the Islamic world that they would push Israel into the sea – Israel gained even more of the Golan Heights!

Hopefully, one will see both Israel’s pattern of enemies and the gains Israel has made through each assault by her enemies. No doubt the prophecy watch community during those twenty-five years (between 1948 and 1973) of stammering events were ablaze -- as are we, now in light of the Lebanon War with Hezbollah in 2006, and as of recently started up their rocket attacks again. That is just one front, then there are the consistent rockets from Gaza raining down on Israel for that last 20 years from Hamas, and recently the atrocities of Oct 7 in 2023. Israel has justifiably so, defended herself in force! All of these are regional birth-pains that will and are escalating to give birth to larger end-time war at the end of the age.

However, there are a couple of known battles described in Scripture yet to happen before the final biggie, the Battle of Armageddon. It is these future battles that should temper our discernment of timing!

The battles that have not yet taken place, as described in Psalm 83 and Ezekiel 38, are of themselves a point of debate in when they happen – not if they will happen!
