It was customary, as the primary responsibility of the father, to Shiddukhin for his son, meaning to the father would select and make arrangements for his son’s marriage.
No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him…John 6:44
Once the Shiddukhin was arranged, the wedding itself had two parts: the Kiddushin and Nissuin. The Kiddushin was a formal and public exchange of vows to be followed by a long preparation period. Then the couple separated for the purpose of preparing for their union.
Once appropriate preparations were complete, the Nissuin would be initiated by the father of the groom once the wedding chamber had been prepared. The father would then encourage his son to go get is bride – the wedding chamber was now ready! Upon their return, the bride and groom would consummate the marriage and the celebration of a great wedding feast of the marriage would begin!
