Have you ever considered that if we speak against God’s Word in either the Old or New Testament then we are speaking against Jesus Himself? Jesus referred to Himself as the Self Existent One (YHVH),
“I Am,” said Jesus. Mark 14:62
The Spirit of God resounding through the Apostle John, described Jesus as,
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:1, 14
Note, “Word” in this verse is singular when describing Who Jesus is, He is not part of the Word of God but the integration of all God’s Word, He is the Embodiment, the Personhood, the Presence of Truth Himself. As we see in John 14:8, 9 and Hebrews 1:3,
Philip said to Him, "Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us." Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, 'Show us the Father'? John 14:8, 9
...Who being the brightness of [His] glory and the express image of His Person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high... Heb 1:3
After Jesus rose from the dead, Luke chapter 24 tells of an occasion when the resurrected Jesus began walking along the road to Emmaus with two men discussing what had just happened, primarily the death of Jesus. Then Jesus revealed Himself to them with these words,
Then He said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?" And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself…. And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?"
Luke 24: 25-32
Again, Jesus later found His disciples back in Jerusalem all huddled behind closed doors confounded with the same things as the fellas on the road to Emmaus were struggling with -- the death of Jesus, an empty tomb and the testimony of what they believed to be emotional women who said they saw Him – and wham-o, Jesus walks right through the wall and greets them,
Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me." And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures. Luke 24:44, 45
Beloved, abiding in the collective Body of Scripture with an anointed and opened understanding to comprehend them is the ultimate revelatory and worshipful experience! If Jesus Himself pointed to the Old Testament to validate His Identity, shouldn’t we?
Furthermore, on the mount of transfiguration, who from the Kingdom’s spiritual dimension are seen affirming Jesus? Moses (representative of the Law) and Elijah (representative of the Prophets)! Did you know the Second Coming of Christ is characterized by both Moses and Elijah (Mal 4:4-6)? Jesus is the integrated Embodiment of both Truth and Spirit!
Friends, the Law, the Prophets and the Psalms (the complete Tanakh) are relevant to us as New Testament believers. Though this study will focus on our identity as the Bride of Christ leading up to our our role in the end-times, we will begin our journey from the Source of Truth Himself! We will observe Him in the origins of His created patterns so that we might recognize His illustrated patterns throughout the text. Hopefully, from the very beginning we will understand the relevance in how His creative code of order relates to His work in our hearts today!
